Monday Makeover: No Poo

Ok, so I'm not sure how much I'll be posting to this blog, but I'm gonna try. Here goes...

Have any of you out there heard about "no poo"? Well, I recently read about it and my first thought was that's gross. First of all, anything with poo in it doesn't sound enticing to a mother of a newborn. Changing diapers all the time just makes me think of poop. I'm sure I just grossed out many of you, LOL!

However, the concept of not shampooing kept me coming back to google searches to read more and watch videos.
 My thoughts were,
not washing your hair...way gross
but...the idea intrigued me.
I continued reading and there's plenty of recipes for a baking soda wash and apple cider vinegar rinse. AND, it is supposed to be good for curly hair. Which I have.

Since moving back to the Portland area, my hair has felt dry and I've gotten tired of wasting money trying new products. And, I didn't want to pay salon prices for shampoo. Other people who "no poo" want to avoid the chemicals in shampoos. That wasn't what drew me to give this a try.

I have been shampoo free for a week and a half now.  I'm waiting for the transition period to begin...but it would be super awesome if it didn't!

Week 1 observations:
Hair dries faster
Curls better
Softer than ever before
Generally feels healthier
Using less product(more about this on Friday)

I followed the recipe that's in this video: Ashley's Green Life: No Poo Method
I would love to hear from those who are currently using the "no poo" method!
And make sure to check out Leah Gillen's site for her Makeover Monday post.

Reflections for 2013

First of all, I'm 38 weeks along with this baby boy and so ready to meet him and hold him.  Not only that, but his big sister is excited too!

Many people come up with a word for the new year and I would say that we have a lot of changes that happened in 2012 and 2013 will bring even more change.

My word for the year:
INTENTIONAL

We are still getting settled in our new city, adjusting to apartment living, my husband's new job still feels new, living near family, and preparing for our new arrival.  Along with that, working on our support network outside of our extended family. And, basically, just surviving the end of a pregnancy!

I felt that I needed to try to avoid certain distractions and I've already taken some action to remove those distractions from my life. I'm focusing on building friendships. I will soon be focusing on what our new family unit will look like. I'm not really sure how much I'll be blogging, but that is an option I want to keep open for myself.  The hours I'll be keeping with a newborn will most likely be cause for more reflections about my life in general.

Some things I hope to be intentional about in 2013
(this list will grow throughout the year):
Relationships with my hubby, daughter, and newborn baby
Getting back into workouts
(which includes participating in this: http://electricrun.com/portland-or/)
Spending time with extended family
Spending time with friends

And, I'll leave you with a picture of a Christmas gift a friend mailed me:
Ever felt like this??

32 weeks and counting

32 weeks along today, but this time around I'm much more uncomfortable.  This boy kicks A LOT!  He's strong too!

So far I have 9 meals in the freezer!  Well on my way to my goal of 20 before this little guy arrives.

My awesome friend, Emily, bought me this shirt.  It is so true for this pregnancy!
