Hot topic: Abortion survivor Gianna Jessen

Yes, I'm pro-life.  Now, before you are ready to attack me, I want you to know that I have friends who are pro-choice.  We've come to a decision on this topic: agree to disagree. I feel deeply about  my beliefs and so do they; in no way are we going to change each others minds and to try to do so would be detrimental to our friendship.  If you choose to keep reading, please keep this in mind as I realize this is a very controversial subject.

I had the opportunity to hear Gianna Jessen speak.  She is funny, engaging, and you either love her or hate her(those were her words).  I love her!  Totally wanted to sit down and have coffee with her like I would my closest friends and family! She's spunky and lives her life to the fullest.

If you haven't heard of her, she's an abortion survivor.  Her medical records say: born during saline abortion.  She wasn't supposed to be able to even hold up her head, but she has accomplished much more than doctors said she would.  She has the gift of cerebral palsy(her words), which is due to her birth.  Amidst many of her accomplishments is running 2 marathons on her tiptoes.

Her message isn't one of condemnation.  She does believe abortion is murder (I do too), but her overall message was this:
You are valuable and have unspeakable worth.

She came into this world not wanted, her birth mother disposing of her.  But, yet, she found her hope in Jesus Christ.

She has turned the impossible situation into a story of hope to those who've ever felt unloved and unworthy.  When I get to heaven I will thank God for giving Gianna the opportunity to share her story.  So, for now, thank you Gianna for the boldness to stand up and share your story of hope.  Thank you for being a voice for the unborn.

Also, the movie  October baby: http://octoberbabymovie.net/ is inspired by Gianna's life. I haven't seen it yet, but totally want to!

Where do you stand on this issue(pro-life, pro-choice)?  Obviously, you know where I stand.  Do you agree or agree to disagree with me?

***Disrespectful comments will be deleted.  I believe we can be respectful with each other on this subject.

  1. I'm with you! What an amazing story. Her strength through all her challenges, physically and emotionally, is an inspiration to me and reminder to be happy even when times seem tough!

  2. I myself am 100% pro-life..there is no "with exception of" for ME. By that I mean, if God forbid a man would force himself on me and it would result in pregnancy, I would like to believe that I would not place blame or sentence to death the innocent child that also didn't ask for this to happen. Children are concieved by God's choosing. And by saying "with exception" it implies he's made a mistake. This also includes (again, for ME) abortion in order to save the mother. Now that is why I would really express the FOR ME, because I could see why some women would consider it if it meant leaving older children without a mother. I am saying that I couldn't find a place where I could live with that for myself, and I say that having to at one time face that possibility. All that said, I will not ever judge the choice another woman makes for she is the one that has to live (or not) with and face the the decisions she makes for her own life. I could never go as far as saying I agree with that choice. I am like you though, I prefer to agree to disagree, because trying to convince anyone of what you believe to be right or wrong and demanding that they agree with you, will never lead to anywhere positive. What does sicken me though, is something like this:
The parents of a four-year-old Oregon girl with Down syndrome were awarded $2.9 million after doctors misdiagnosed their daughter as not having the condition during a prenatal screening.
Ariel and Deborah Levy of Portland, Ore., filed a “wrongful birth” lawsuit against Legacy Health System, claiming that they would have terminated the pregnancy had they known they would have a special-needs child.
The Levys said the doctors were “negligent in their performance, analysis and reporting” of test results after their child was born as well.

They say how much they love her and that this is to help provide for her, but it based on them saying if they could take it back, they wouldn't want her to exist, they rather she be dead. In my opinion, they should have been either awarded the money, OR got to keep their daughter..not both. Medical testing is far from perfect. There was another couple that showed possible problems with their baby during an ultasound and they were asked if they would like to do further testing for option of termination. They opted not to, being pro-life themselves, knowing that no matter what the tests show they would not terminate. They ended up having a perfectly healthy baby boy. But "what if" they went further with testing and got incorrect results showing a problem that wasn't there? The fact is no matter what "precausions" are taken, nothing is 100% known until that baby is born.
